These hydrophane opals are a special and beautiful type of opal mined in Ethiopia. They absorb water and change color or transparency when they do. A good example is the Welo deposit in Ethiopia, which is where most of the hydrophane opals come from.
These opals absorb water, up to 15% of their weight, and can get damaged if not handled properly. We recommend placing them in distilled water inside the acrylic container once you have mined and cleaned them.
Each stone is unique and beautiful so please expect slight variations in color, texture, and size.
